Rotary Donates $4,000 To Paris Downtown Boxing Gym

Paris, Tenn.—The $4,000 donated to the Paris Downtown Boxing Gym today by the Paris Rotary Club will be used to purchase a competitive boxing ring so that the local gym can host tournaments of their own.

The ring will be displayed for the first time for the public at the third annual Havoc in Henry County Boxing Tournament which will be held Saturday, November 11, at the Central School Building in Paris. It will be a USA Boxing Sanctioned Amateur event.

Accepting the check from Acting Rotary President Brian Tusa were Derik and Miranda Moon, along with three of the gym’s boxers, Brandon Steele, Jacob Crabtree and Clinton Phifer. The check in the amount of $4,000 is provided by a Rotary District grant and matching funds from Paris Rotary. Each year the District Rotary gives clubs and programs an opportunity to apply for grant funds to assist clubs in carrying out activities which support the Rotary Foundation Mission.

Miranda Moon said it is the largest single donation received by the Paris Downtown Boxing Gym so far. “We’re just super excited about it,” she said.

Also at today’s Rotary meeting, Destiny Wright, a youth volunteer at REAL Hope Yough Center was the guest speaker. She is in her second year at REAL Hope and is 13 years old.
