Big Sandy, Tenn.—Two teenagers have been arrested for the vandalism of a Big Sandy church and Sheriff Kenny Christopher said when he asked them why they did it, they said they were bored.
Two 16-year-olds from Big Sandy were arrested in connection with the vandalism—which included desecration of Bibles and flags—of McRae’s Chapel Outdoorsmen Baptist Church at 1555 Sulphur Creek Rd. in Big Sandy last Saturday night.
As WENK/WTPR reported Sunday, the back building at the church had been ransacked. The vandals broke windows, broke doors, threw food from the kitchen all over, trashed the children’s play area and broke and scattered the children’s toys and belongings.
The pair also drew pentagrams on the Bibles and left a message saying, “The Devil has been here.” Christopher said the pair cut the church flag and the American flag and spit on them, as well as tore up songbooks and destroyed the sound system.
Also in the course of that night, the same pair stole four-wheelers and a golf cart from nearby residences. All of that property was recovered by Sunday, Christopher told us earlier.
Christopher said one of the teens already has an extensive criminal history and has already been placed at the juvenile center in Murfreesboro. The other teen is under house arrest.
Both will appear soon in the local juvenile court.
