
Paris, Tenn.–Paris Police have released details on Monday evening’s three-vehicle collision in downtown Paris. The collision began as a pursuit on Chickasaw Rd. and had already been ended by law enforcement when the wreck occurred.
According to the press release, Investigator Jeremye Whitaker attempted to stop a silver Buick on Chickasaw Road at 5:40 p.m
The vehicle accelerated as it traveled towards India Road and when the vehicle reached India Road it turned left onto India Road and accelerated again at unsafe speeds.
Whitaker then terminated the pursuit because of the driver’s unsafe driving. Inv. Whitaker continued on India Road and saw the vehicle coming back towards him.
According to the press release, the driver of the Buick nearly hit Whitaker head-on intentionally and Whitaker again began pursuing the vehicle again due to the aggravated assault on the officer.
Whitaker gave pursuit on India Road to Chickasaw Road. When he reached Chickasaw Road he observed the driver to be driving in an unsafe manor on Chickasaw Road again. Whitaker then terminated the pursuit.
A short time later City Units observed the Buick on Washington Street. The driver of the Buick again almost hit an officer head-on, along with another vehicle, but no pursuit was initiated.
A short time later, City Units observed a crash at the intersection of Washington Street and Market Street. The crash involved the silver Buick. It had crashed into two other vehicles. The driver was observed running from the crash scene. Officers then gave chase on foot and the driver was apprehended.
The driver was identified as Rachael Young. She was taken by police vehicle to HCMC to be checked for injuries. One of the drivers of a vehicle that was hit also transported to HCMC.
Charges are pending on Young and the investigation is ongoing. THP is working the accident.
