Union City School System students and staff today are mourning the tragic death of junior Paul Martin Tohn, who passed away Thursday evening from injuries suffered in an auto accident in Weakley County.
Tohn, the son of UC Elementary School teacher Katie and Kenny Tohn and a member of the tennis and golf teams, died at The West Tennessee Healthcare Volunteer Hospital following the accident.
“Paul Martin was a wonderful young man and a true Golden Tornado,” Union City High School Principal Jacob Cross said this morning after informing faculty and students of the tragedy.
“We are obviously all in shock. We will offer whatever help is needed to our students and staff, and our prayers will be with Katie and Kenny and their family.”
School system counselors and area church youth leaders will be available to UC Schools students today on all three campuses.
The Tohn family has two other children, William and McClain, who are students in the UC School System.
“Today and the coming days will be about comforting and supporting our students, faculty, and the Tohn family,” Union City Director of Schools Wes Kennedy said. “We will offer our love, our support, and our compassion, and get through this difficult time the best way we can.”
Funeral arrangements for Paul Martin Tohn are incomplete at this time.
