A seven-run explosion in the fourth inning helped make Senior Day a success for the Union City baseball team in the Tornadoes’ 7-3 victory over Lake County on Wednesday.
UC (9-20) trailed 2-0 before its uprising that included five walks, three hits, and a pair of Falcon errors.
Jack Theobald singled in the Twisters’ go-ahead run, and Sam Jones – one of two seniors honored in pregame ceremonies – had two RBIs. Grissom Hutchison, the other honoree, scored a run for the victors.
Preston Creswell had his finest pitching outing of the season, throwing a complete game with four strikeouts and just one earned run allowed to pick up the victory. Creswell also helped himself at the dish with a pair of singles and a run scored.
The win avenged an earlier 20-10 loss to LC for the Tornadoes.
Union City is scheduled to conclude its regular season on Friday at Milan before opening District 14-2A Tournament play vs. Ripley on Tuesday at Elam Stadium.
MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS

The Union City Middle School girls won for the third time in as many matches, while the Tornado boys improved to 2-1 with convincing triumphs at Crockett County.
UC’s girls did not lose a single game in five singles matches and one doubles encounter.
Andi Walker, Carsen Gray, Austyn Dilday, Molly Dean, and Reilly Mears all recorded 6-0 shutouts, while Walker and Gray teamed for an identical score. CC had just three girls’ players for the match.
The Tornado boys won six of seven matchups. The doubles teams of William Tohn and Eli Rice, and Dexter Graham and Cooper Waggoner both won 6-1. Tohn whitewashed Davis Manning 6-0 in individual play.
Union City’s next action is scheduled at McCracken County on April 29.
