Second graders at Union City Elementary School took a ‘big swing’ at things with their annual spring musical.
And not surprisingly, they connected.
Performing a program written by UCES music teacher Katie Tohn, entitled ‘Keep Swinging,’ the young students delighted three different audiences of family and friends with spirited performances on Tuesday.
Collectively, the group performed several classic songs that had baseball and springtime themes, highlighted by ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame.’ Many students were attired in baseball and softball uniforms of their favorite teams during the program, which focused on kids working hard to try out for teams.
“I believe they really enjoyed themselves – both in the preparation and the performances,” Tohn said of her cast. “It’s always fun when the kids recognize some of the songs, and we worked on this for about 8-10 weeks. Plus, they got to show their own style with their uniforms and gear.
“It was a really upbeat program, and I think it was fun for everybody.”
