The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been requested by Post 1 Mayfield to investigate a shooting involving probation and parole officers that occurred on Friday, March 27, 2026, around 11:50 a.m. CDT in McCracken County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that three officers from the Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole arrived at 2821 Marquees Drive in Paducah, Ky., conducting a home visit on an individual under supervision. While at the residence, probation and parole officers encountered Mr. Rayshawn Tucker, 22, of Paducah, Ky., who was not associated with the home visit. Mr. Tucker stabbed one of the probation and parole officers with a knife, which prompted the officer and fellow officer to fire their agency-issued weapons, striking him. Mr. Tucker was transported to Baptist Health Paducah, where he was later pronounced deceased. Two of the probation and parole officers were transported to nearby hospitals where they were treated and released. No other officers were injured during the incident.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines for completing investigations vary depending on the complexity of the case.
