Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Helping Hand Radio Auction will resume Saturday after a week off due to the cold, ice and snow we’ve all been experiencing. It’s due to the grit of the Whitlock community, which felt strongly about moving ahead with their day at the auction on Saturday.

Helping Hand Secretary Allie Harper said members of the Whitlock community contacted auction board members and asked whether it was possible for them to have their day as originally scheduled Saturday. “I thought it was really sweet,” Harper said, “and shows what the Helping Hand auction is all about.”

Whitlock residents have been mobilizing, with plenty of phone calls made to each other and members of the community volunteering to make grocery runs for others who could not get out but wanted to make or bake items for the auction.

The Whitlock Fire Department also volunteered to have people bring their items to the fire station this afternoon.

“It’s great seeing everyone getting together like that,” Harper said. “It was just important to them to have their day as scheduled.”

Saturday’s auction will begin at noon with Auctioneer Wendy Barnhart and the Springhill Baptist & Friends group manning the phones.

Harper said the groups which missed their days over the past week will be rescheduled. “We’re assuming we have the auction Monday, too, at least that’s what we’re hoping. Let’s hope we don’t have any more of this weather.”

The auction is held at the Paris Convention Center from January 12 through March 4 and you can participate and/or watch in several ways: You can listen on one of our radio stations, WHNY 104.7FM or 1000 AM or listen on our website at HenryCountyNow.com or the Henry County Helping Hand website at https://www.hchelpinghand.org/ Auction phone number is 644-1695. The auction begins on the weekdays at 12:30 p.m. and on Saturdays at noon.
