Obion County Warming Centers

Union City Energy Authority has met with local first responders to prepare for the winter weather system forecasted to impact our area today through Sunday. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through the weekend and into the middle of next week. While current forecasts indicate the highest ice accumulation may remain south of I-40, weather patterns can shift quickly. We encourage our customers to be prepared in the event conditions change.
Ice accumulation can damage power lines and cause tree limbs to fall through power lines. This damage can cause extended outages while crews work to safely make repairs. If you or a loved one relies on electricity for medical needs, please ensure you have a plan in place, such as back up generator or knowledge of local warming shelters. See attached for a list. *
As always, if you experience an emergency after hours, please call 731-885-9212 and follow the prompts for an emergency. While Union City Energy Authority will always work diligently to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, we strongly encourage customers to have a preparedness plan in place.
If You Experience a Power Outage:
• Check your UCEA meter at the electrical service entrance of your home or business. If the digital display is visible on the UCEA Meter, the issue may be on your side.
• If the meter base or riser has been damaged due to fallen trees, the property owner or landlord must contact a licensed electrician for repairs before UCEA can restore power to the structure.
• ALWAYS REMEMBER: NEVER touch fallen power lines or any line that appears to be a power line. Always assume lines are energized and dangerous.
• If no display is present or you see downed power lines, call 731-885-9212. Emergency personnel will respond to your outage. Please note that during widespread outages, phone lines may be busy.
• In the event of a widespread outage on the UCEA system, a notification immediately alerts emergency personnel through our Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
In widespread outages, UCEA employees always ride out high voltage circuits from the substation to the end of the powerline to find the root cause of the outage. This process takes time to make sure the fault is clear and repairs are made to re-energize the circuit. Safety is our #1 focus, and we must take these timely steps to ensure everyone’s safety.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prepare for potential winter weather impacts. Please stay safe, stay informed, and take the necessary precautions to protect your home and family. Be Safe Union City!
