From McKenzie High School:
McKenzie celebrated homecoming Friday night, hosting Houston Co. in a crucial district doubleheader.
Prior to the games, junior Ava Hastings was crowned this year’s homecoming queen. Left to right–Ashley Dunavant, Molly French, Queen Ava Hastings, Miley Prince, and Gracie Aird.
The girls game was competitive, as expected. McKenzie’s four point halftime lead would extend to eleven after three quarters, and the Lady Rebels would hold on for a big 47-37 victory.
Then the boys played…..
It’s no secret that our boys haven’t had the season thus far that Rebel fans are used to seeing and that the team hasn’t displayed signs of fluidity or consistency in their ability to play as a cohesive unit.
Tonight was going to be one of those games that would be a benchmark in seeing if we could compete in the district and turn things around, as Houston Co. would be a good barometer.
Over that last 210 seconds, McKenzie went on a 14-2 run to end the game, outscored the Fighting Irish 23-11 in the quarter, and literally “stole” the game away, winning 73-70!!!
Next up is the final district game of the first rotation of teams as we’ll host Clarksburg next Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
