Springville, Tenn.–The Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department had a busy day Tuesday, with two fire calls–one a structure fire and a large brush fire. High winds adversely affected both fire scenes.

First, the department and Henry County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the structure fire at 75 Prairie Crest Lane in Springville, at 1:30 p.m. Fire Chief Reggie Coles said arriving units found a storage/workshop engulfed in flames with the fire quickly spreading, threatening nearby structures due to the high winds.

The fire was extinguished and was a total loss. Damage is estimated at $75,000. Owner Steve Reynolds was not present when the fire started. Coles said the cause of the fire is still undetermined but is believed to be accidental.

Paris Landing responded with 4 trucks and 6  personnel. Automatic Mutual Aid was received from Pars Fire Department which responded with 1 truck and 4 personnel.  Units were on the scene for two hours.

While still on the scene of the structure fire, units were dispatched to 170 Pineview Road in Springville on a report of a large brush fire. One truck and three firefighters were sent to the brush fire.

Arriving units found a half acre of grass and leaving burning. The fire was extinguished without property damage.

The Forestry Service and Puryear Fire Department were dispatched for mutual aid, but later cancelled.

Alexander Strickland said he was burning trash in an open burn barrel when high winds caused the fire to spread, Coles said.

Paris Landing Fire Dept would like to remind everyone that Burn Permits
are required for any open burning between October 15th and May 15th each
year, and please exercise good judgement and not burn on windy days.
