Union City, Tenn.–Meeting in short session Tuesday, the Union City City Council voted to extend the contract for waste disposal another five years, meaning it runs through June 30, 2034.
Mayor Terry Hailey provided some background. “We are just into our first year with Platform Waste which would expire June 30, 2029. Platform Waste has just been purchased by Unified Disposal Partners Holdings, LLC.
“As they take over now, they offered to extend the current contract another five years with exactly the same terms. Everything stays the same with the same personnel. The current contract is based on the Consumer Price Index. Cost of service cannot increase more than 3% from year to year. If the CPI increases over 3%, our rate stays capped at 3%. If its below 3%, we get that advantage.”
Council also approved soliciting bids for 4 windows and 6 doors for Fire Station #2. We had previously put the windows out for bids and received no bids. “In an effort to generate greater interest in bidding, the scope of work has been expanded to include the 6 doors at the facility. While the doors were originally planned as a separate project, combining the windows and doors into a single bid package is expected to be more attractive to potential contractors,” Hailey said.
