Union City, Tenn.–Discovery Park of America honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its annual King Day celebration Monday, January 19.
The program begins at 11 a.m. in Dinosaur Hall and features a keynote address from Dr. Mark McCloud, Vice Chancellor for Access and Engagement at the University of Tennessee at Martin, along with a performance by the Discovery Park Community Choir.
Following the program, families can take part in hands-on activities inspired by Dr. King’s words, explore the connections between Dr. King and other civil rights leaders and meet local organizations focused on service and giving back. Admission to the King Day celebration is free for all, and guests are encouraged to bring canned goods to support local food banks.
Students in grades 9-12 from Obion County High School, South Fulton High School, Union City High School and local homeschool programs in Obion County are invited to participate in the King Day Student Essay Competition. The top three essays will be announced during the program, with prizes awarded. The submission deadline has been extended to Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026.
