Christian Co. Sheriff’s Office Investigating Hunting Accident That Claimed Life Of Student

Dawson Springs, Ky.–The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Dawson Springs 17-year-old who was fatally injured in a hunting accident near Crofton.

Aden McKinney, a junior at Dawson Springs High School, was killed when a firearm accidentally discharged. The incident happened Friday, January 2, and McKinney was transported to a Nashville hospital, where he died early Saturday morning, January 3.

Dawson Springs Independent Schools Superintendent Lenny Whalen issued a statement over the weekend: “It is with overwhelming sadness that our district shares the loss of one of the members of our junior class: Aden McKinney. Aden passed early this morning following injuries sustained in a hunting accident.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Aden’s family, friends, classmates, and all who are grieving. Counselors and support staff will be available for students and faculty on Monday and as needed as we navigate this difficult loss together.
Our support and thoughts are with Aden’s family. We’ll continue to treasure our memories of Aden, forever a Panther.”
Whalen said counseling and support services are being made available to students and staff.
