Ford is renaming its Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center at the BlueOval City campus to the Tennessee Truck Plant,
shifting production from EVs to new, affordable gas-powered trucks starting in 2029, following a restructuring of its EV strategy and battery joint ventures. This plant will now focus on broadening Ford’s truck lineup, with the battery plant portion of BlueOval City being fully taken over by battery partner SK On.
Key Changes:
  • New Name: Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center becomes the Tennessee Truck Plant.
  • New Focus: Production of new, affordable gas-powered trucks, not electric vehicles.
  • Start Date: Production is planned to begin in 2029.
  • Reason for Change: A customer-driven shift towards more profitable growth in trucks, vans, and hybrids, along with lower EV demand and high costs, according to Ford.
  • Battery Plant: SK On will now fully own and operate the battery plant at the same campus.
