The Union City Schools family has certainly been in the holiday spirit.
Collectively, students and staff have donated more than 13,000 cans and non-perishable food items to assist three charitable organizations in the upcoming holiday period.
The annual feeding of the 5,000, Chimes for Charity, and Natalie’s Place Food Bank are among the organizations that’ll benefit from donations from the Union City Schools community.
The efforts were part of the annual Turkey Troy and Pacer Test at UC Elementary, with Nikki Gilliam’s 3rd-grade class earning a pizza party for the most items donated.
Union City Middle School topped its goal of 3,000 cans by more than 600, with 5th graders bringing in the largest total of nearly 1,500.
At UCHS, the Tornado Spark Club oversaw the activity that produced more than 1,200 items.
Representatives from the benefiting organizations picked up the donations at each school last week.
