Martin, Tenn.–Martin Mayor Randy Brundige resigned today, effective immediately. In a letter sent to the city’s Aldermen, Brundige asked the Alderman to “please accept my immediate resignation” effective today, November 21.

Vice Mayor David Belote will assume the duties of mayor in the interim.

As we reported earlier today, a special meeting was called for Tuesday afternoon and the key item on the agenda was to seek Brundige’s resignation.

The Board of Aldermen are expected to discuss the continued employment of Community Development Director Brad Thompson. The meeting will be held at 5:15 p.m. at the city courtroom.

Findings from the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office led to the indictment of Brundige, Thompson, and former city employee Natalie Brundige, the daughter of the mayor. They are charged with misuse of over $450,000.

Meanwhile, the three are set for arraignment in Weakley County Circuit Court Monday morning, November 24.
