Union City’s Marching Purple People made their mark at the Tournament of Champions band competition at Collierville High School over the weekend.
UC won first place in both band and color guard in the Class A portion of the contest and placed second in the percussion category.
The performance came on the heels of the Tornadoes’ first competition of the year, when they won first place in band, percussion, and color guard in Class 4 of the Hornet Invitational at South Gibson County High School.
Union City will enjoy some time off for Fall Break before returning to competition in the Gibson County Marching Invitational on Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.
“This was a great way to end the first half of our competition season,” veteran band director Jason Deem said. “Our students put on their best performance of the year to date, and I was proud of them.
“We’ll take this weekend off and recharge our batteries for the final weeks of our competition season.”
UC will also compete at the Crockett County Invitational on Oct. 25 before closing its season at the Division II State Championship at Stewart’s Creek High School in early November.
