Dyer County Sheriff’s Office Confirms Death Of Inmate

Dyer County, TN – On September 24, 2025, the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office confirms the death of inmate Deandre Pickering, who was found unresponsive in his cell at the Dyer County Jail. Mr. Pickering was housed alone in his cell, and at this time, no foul play is suspected.
Correction officers called for deputies and Medical Center EMS to respond to the scene where he was pronounced deceased Sept. 24, 2025 at 5:38 am. It is customary regarding in-custody deaths to contact the Dyer County Medical Examiner’s Office who responded to the scene to investigate. It is also standard protocol for an autopsy to be ordered to determine the cause of death, and this process is part of the ongoing investigation.
“We extend our condolences as well as our prayers to the family and friends of Mr. Pickering during this difficult time,” says Sheriff Jeff Box. “Our sincere focus is on reviewing all pertinent details surrounding this incident in accordance with established procedures.”
Mr. Pickerings next of kin has been notified and the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Dyer County Medical Examiner’s Office, will conduct a thorough investigation. The findings from the investigations, along with the autopsy report and other relevant documents, will be submitted to 29th Judicial District Attorney General Danny Goodman for review.
