Paris Academy for the Arts invites the public to a unique gallery exhibition, “Conifer Cones,” featuring the striking photography of artist Ron Toth. The show opens with a special reception on Sunday, September 21, from 2-4 PM.

Often overlooked as simple objects, conifer cones are in fact a testament to nature’s intricate design. Toth’s work highlights the hidden beauty and mathematical precision of these forms. Using specialized photographic techniques, he reveals the surprising variety in their shapes, textures, and spiraling patterns, inviting viewers to see these common objects in a new light.

Toth received his BS, specializing in botany, at Cornell University in
1970, and a PhD after studying marine brown algae in the Botany
Department at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1975. After a
two-year postdoctoral fellowship with Professor Job Kuijt, studying parasitic
flowering plants, he was hired as an Assistant Professor at Northern Illinois
University.

“My goal with this project is to show the intimate details of cones to reveal their inherent beauty,” Toth said. By presenting these images in a collection, the exhibition aims to create a powerful cumulative effect, showcasing the remarkable range of forms that exist within this single family of plants.

Guests at the reception will have the opportunity to meet Ron Toth, enjoy light refreshments, and explore his captivating collection.
