Paris, TN — At its September board meeting held Thursday evening at the Wellness Center Building, the Henry County Board of Education reviewed the latest academic performance data, revealing that students across grades 3–12 scored above the state average on the most recent TCAP and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments.
Maria Cox, Supervisor for Grades 3–8, reported strong performance across all core subjects—English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies—with continued growth over the past five years. “We’ve seen significant gains, particularly in third-grade scores,” said Cox. “This is critical given the state’s third-grade retention law, and I’m proud to say that no students in Henry County were retained under its guidelines.”
Cox also highlighted that the district received a Level 5 Composite Score—the highest possible—in grades 4–8 across all tested subjects, a strong indicator of year-over-year student growth. She noted upcoming goals include sustaining literacy progress, enhancing math instruction, and accelerating achievement in science and social studies.
Renea Wade, Supervisor for Grades 9–12, shared similarly positive results at the high school level. “Henry County students outperformed the state average in English, Math, and Science,” Wade said. “We’ve also increased the percentage of students scoring a 21 or higher on the ACT, which boosts eligibility for scholarships and post-secondary opportunities.”
These results reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and student success.
