Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 troopers and detectives have arrested a former Murray High School teacher following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate sexual relations with a former student.

KSP Post 1 initially received a report in August 2018 from the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) alleging possible sexual relations between Jason Shelby, who was a Murray High School teacher at the time of the report, and at least two students. Allegations of misconduct against Mr. Shelby go back as far as 2005; however, the first report made to KSP was from EPSB in 2018. Following the initial report to KSP, Mr. Shelby did resign from his teaching position in October 2018.

Upon receiving the report in 2018, KSP detectives began a thorough investigation; however, it was not until one victim recently came forward that enough evidence was available to obtain a warrant for Mr. Shelby. In August 2025 this former student reported being involved in a sexual relationship with Mr. Shelby while she was a student in 2008 and 2009. During that time, the victim was 15 and 16 years old.

On September 9, 2025 a warrant was obtained for Mr. Shelby with the charges of Rape 3rd Degree and Sexual Abuse 1st Degree. Mr. Shelby was arrested and charged in accordance with the warrant on September 10, 2025. He has been lodged in the Calloway County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing by Detective William Propes. Anyone with information about this incident or related incidents is encouraged to contact KSP Post 1 by calling (270)856-3721. You can also submit a tip through the KSP website.
