Grandparents Day at UCES Truly A Magical Time

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director

Grandparents Day at Union City Elementary School remains undefeated.

Waves of grandparents filed into UCES on Tuesday and Wednesday to spend special time and create cherished memories with their grandchildren during the annual popular ritual, hosted by faculty and staff.

It was difficult to tell who was more excited.

Smiles, excitement, and laughter were the theme of both days, with each class – from Tiny Tornado Academy through the fourth grade – welcoming their special guests.

Visitors gathered in the school gymnasium and were entertained with songs by each grade, directed by music teacher Katie Tohn.

Students and grandparents then enjoyed a snack and took advantage of multiple photo opportunities and the chance to visit with teachers and staff in the school courtyard.

Tiny Tornado Academy students, kindergartners, 2nd graders, and 4th graders entertained their special guests on Tuesday, while Pre-K, 1st, and 3rd graders welcomed family members today.

“From the moment that our students walk into the gymnasium and search for their grandparents in the audience to the time that the adults wave to get their attention, it’s just magical,” UCES Principal Allison Palmer said. “It’s always a special time and an event we enjoy hosting for the memories it makes for everyone.”
