Train-Truck Collision Claims Two Lives

McKENZIE  —A train collided with a bucket truck Saturday and claimed the lives of two young men. Their work truck attempted to cross the tracks and collided with the CSX train on Harris Road, just outside of McKenzie.

According to the report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Martin Perez, age 26, was driving the 2022 model 5500 Dodge truck east on Harris Rd. and the CSX train was southbound at the crossing. This is the second fatal accident at the same railroad crossing within a month. The first accident claimed the life of Destiny Henry, age 24.

Luke Scott, age 18, was the passenger in the bucket truck. According to his obituary, Scott was an apprentice lineman.

CSX issued a statement:

At approximately 8:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 6, a CSX train came in contact with a pickup truck with two passengers located near Harris Road in McKenzie, Tennessee. Carroll County EMS quickly responded to the scene and later reported that both individuals were fatally injured. There were no injuries to the crew.

CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident and will continue to support local law enforcement as they complete the investigation.”

Funeral services for Luke Scott are Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 1:00p.m. at McKenzie Church of Christ. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, 4:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie has charge of arrangements.

Mr. Scott, 18 years old died Saturday, September 6, 2025. He is an apprentice lineman and attended Huntingdon High School. He was born on July 23, 2007, at McKenzie to Nicky and Kim Drewry Scott.

He is survived by his parents, two sisters Addie Scott of Hollow Rock and Karlie Carroll of McKenzie, two Aunts Amanda (Joey) King of McKenzie and Delaine Robertson, an Uncle Casey (Terri) Drewry all of McKenzie, nieces and nephews Greyson, Tate, Cassidy, Trace, Tripp and Bentlee and paternal grandparents Jackie and Brenda Scott.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Susie Drewry Daniel and Donald and Sandra Drewry.

The obituary for Mr. Perez has not yet been released.
