DYERSBURG – Dyersburg Police Department Detectives are investigating a Tuesday night shooting that left one man dead and another injured.
Nireonte Mayberry, 25, of Dyersburg, was shot and killed, said DPD Criminal Investigation Division Lt. Mike Leggett. Jaylon Brown, 20, of Dyersburg, suffered a gunshot wound and was airlifted to Regional One Trauma Center in Memphis.
DPD officers were dispatched to Ab’s Vape and Tobacco Shop at 305 S. Main St. just before 11 p.m., according to a DPD report. Officers arrived to find subjects inside, with Mayberry deceased. Brown was not on the scene but was located later while seeking medical attention.
Leggett said the case is still under investigation. He said the preliminary investigation indicates this appears to have been a case of self-defense.
