Henry County Fair Kicks Off Friday: Horse & Mule Pull, Dancing, BBQ & More

The Henry County Fair kicks off Friday with BBQ, food trucks, a dance and horse and mule pull. What more could you ask for?

The day will begin with setting up by the BBQ teams for the BBQ cookoff in the pavillion from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food trucks for the public will arrive at 5 p.m. and the Junior Fair Board Dance with the James Greer Band will begin at 7 p.m. at the Commercial Building. There will be a contest during the dance: Dress up as your favorite country music star.

Also at 7 p.m., there will be an old-fashioned Horse & Mule pull in the main arena.

The theme for this year’s fair is ‘A Barn-Raising, Hay-Grazing Good Time’ and as always, there will be free parking and free gate admission at the fairgrounds every day.

Youth, adult and Horticulture Department entries will be accepted from 3-5 p.m. Sunday and from 3-6 p.m. Monday. Highlights of the week include Opening Ceremonies, Farm Olympics, Cooking at the Fair Battle of the Churches and a Pet Costume Parade on Monday; the Not So Newlywed Game and Baby Crawl on Tuesday evening, the Carnival starting on Wednesday along with a free meal of white beans and cornbread at Big Ed’s; Woolies Revue and Junior Livestock Sale on Thursday; Commercial Building exhibits and demos on Friday and the Country Ham Sale and Demolition Derby on Saturday.

We’ll be posting each day’s schedule and you can also get the schedules on the Henry County Fair Facebook page or by stopping by the fairgrounds for a Fair Book.

Saturday will be a full day, with the 5k run/walk at 8 a.m., followed by a Dolly & Me Tea Party at 10 a.m. in the Commercial Building. Also during the rest of the day, all the BBQ pork, chicken, ribs, steak will be turned in at the Commercial Building.

Saturday’s activities culminate in a USA Pullers Tractor Pull in the Main Arena. General Admission $20, 5 & under free.

Sunday activities will be:

1:30 p.m. Bed Turning Quilt Show, Commercial Building

2 p.m. 4-H Grilling Cook Off, Pavillion

3 to 5 p.m.Youth, Adult and Horticulture entries accepted

3 p.m. Cornhole Tournament
