Dyersburg, Tennessee – Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Cooper Goen as the new head coach of the Eagles baseball program. With extensive experience at the NCAA Division I level and a remarkable track record in player development and team success, Goen is poised to elevate the program to new heights. Dyersburg State has a branch campus in Paris.

Originally from Austin, Texas, Goen earned acclaim as a three-time Texas All-State selection at Hyde Park High School. He showcased his prowess during his three-year tenure at Texas Christian University (TCU) from 2016 to 2019, contributing to the team’s appearances in three NCAA Division I College World Series. After playing, Goen transitioned to coaching as a Graduate Assistant at TCU, where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Broadcasting with a Minor in Spanish.

Goen’s coaching career commenced in 2020 at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, where he guided catchers, hitters, and base runners while serving as the bench coach during a pandemic-shortened season. He then joined Oakland University in 2021, where his contributions as a hitting, catching, and base running coach helped the program achieve its best record in five years. Under his leadership, a freshman catcher earned honors as an All-Freshman Team member in the Horizon League.

In 2022, Goen became assistant hitting and catching coach at Murray State University, contributing to a standout season in which the Racers finished first in the Ohio Valley Conference and ranked 14th nationally with 119 stolen bases. His coaching acumen was nationally recognized, as two players were named to the prestigious Buster Posey Watch List for the nation’s top catchers. Throughout his time at Murray State, Goen consistently advanced the offense, culminating in 37 wins and 102 home runs in 2024.

Returning to Oakland University in 2025 as the associate head and hitting coach, Goen’s guidance contributed to success on the field. The Grizzlies ranked 9th nationally in stolen bases and produced three All-Conference players, showcasing the effectiveness of Goen’s coaching methodology.

In welcoming Coach Goen to the Eagles, Steve Cornelison, DSCC Athletic Director, remarked, “We are extremely excited about Coach Goen and what he brings to our program. He has played and coached college baseball at the highest levels and been successful doing so.”

Dyersburg State Community College is excited to have Coach Goen at the helm of the Eagles baseball program. We look forward to witnessing his impact on our athletes both on the field and in the classroom.
