tgsas-nrm-101

The University of Tennessee at Martin hosted its annual Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences (TGSAS) on June 1-27. The 30 participating students – all upcoming high school seniors from across the state of Tennessee – lived in the residence halls on campus during TGSAS. Dr. Philip Smartt (shown in navy shirt on the top row), professor of natural resources management in the Department of Agriculture, Geosciences and Natural Resources, is in his first year as the director of the TGSAS program, succeeding Dr. Joey Mehlhorn, the Gil Parker Chair of Excellence in Agriculture, Geosciences and Natural Resources, who guided the program since 2011. Mehlhorn taught AGEC 110, Introduction to Agriculture Business, and NRM 101, Introduction to Natural Resource Management, providing attending students with three hours of college credit. Among the students taking NRM 101 was Allie Paschall of Paris (second from left on second row), a student at Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School. For more information about UT Martin, visit www.utm.edu or call 1-800-829-UTM1 (-8861).
