Firefighters Battle Massive Steel Mill Fire Around The Clock

madison-co-fire

Multiple agencies battled a massive fire at the Gerdau Steel Mill outside of Jackson around the clock. One firefighter was injured and others received IVs for dehydration in the heat.
At 7:35 PM Saturday night, Madison County Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to a large commercial fire on Gerdau Drive. Firefighters faced an intense and challenging blaze at the Gerdau Steel Mill and remained on scene battling the fire until 7:25 AM this morning.
They want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the following agencies for their invaluable assistance with tankers and manpower:
Firefighters said, “A special thank you to Medical Center EMS for staying on scene to support firefighters with rehab services — your team always takes great care of us! Thanks to Jackson Madison County Emergency Management Agency for bringing drinks and snacks to keep everyone going throughout the night.
One of our own volunteer’s mother even made and delivered food to ensure firefighters had something to eat — an act of kindness that meant so much as many had not yet eaten supper.
We did have one firefighter transported due to injury and several others received IVs for dehydration. We are extremely grateful that no further injuries occurred and that everyone made it home safely.
To every responder, supporter, and volunteer — thank you for giving your time, energy, and heart. Your dedication is what keeps our community safe.”
