Stolen Drugs & Guns Seized At I-40 Traffic Stop

Haywood County, TENN. – Drug Task Force Director Johnie Carter says that four people are in custody on felony drug, theft and weapon charges.
On July 23rd, Agents with the West Tennessee Drug Task Force’s Criminal Interdiction Unit were patrolling I-40 in Haywood County when the observed a vehicle following another vehicle too closely.
Agents conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and rapidly developed probable cause to conduct a search. During the search, Agents located 2 loaded firearms, 254 pounds of promethazine (Also known as “Lean”, “Purple Drank” and / or “Sizzurp” on the street.), More than 100 opioid pills and 3 pounds of marijuana hidden in the rental car.
Four persons were arrested on various drug and weapons charges.
Further investigation by Agents of the Task Force showed that the promethazine had been very recently stolen from a pharmaceutical supply business in Houston, Texas. Agents are working with Houston Investigators and more charges are likely to be forthcoming in Haywood County and potentially Houston, Texas as well.
Agents were assisted in the arrest by Haywood County Sheriff’s Department.
