Gary Ray Doughten

Mr. Gary Ray Doughten, 72, of Rives, passed away at 11:55 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Born on March 21, 1953, in Obion County, he was the son of the late Malcolm Clinton Doughten and Emma Marguerite (Daughtery) Doughten Brewer. Gary was a devoted pastor, having served at Calvary Baptist Church in Rutherford for a decade and as an interim pastor for many area churches. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Union City, where he was ordained as a minister.
Gary was a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He was passionate about his faith, family, and hobbies, which included fishing, camping, cooking, and working on small engines and lawn mowers.
He is survived by his son, Bobby Doughten and wife Jenni of Union City; his daughter, Dawn Younger and husband David of Union City; his grandchildren, Mallorie Ruddle and fiancé Parker Southerland, Tanner Doughten, and Kaden Doughten, all of Union City. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Doughten and wife Carolyn of Troy; his sisters, Laura Scott and husband Mike of Troy, Patricia Southerland and husband Greg of Martin, and Kathy Wolfe and husband Steve of Houston, Texas; his sister-in-law, Mollie Doughten of Union City; his stepdaughters, Staci McGrady and husband Chris of Paris, and Jeni Odom of Knoxville; his step-grandchildren, Kara Grace Brogdon, Hunter Brogdon, and Weston Brogdon of Paris, and Tyler Brogdon of Denham Springs, Louisiana; and six step great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ginger (Odom) Doughten, and his brothers, Mark Doughten and Charles Doughten.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home, with Brother Melvin Poe officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Obion. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of services on Monday.
Pallbearers will include Weldon Doughten, Matt Doughten, Jimmy Doughten, Parker Southerland, Rex Ruddle, and Isaiah Southerland, with honorary pallbearers being Eric Doughten, Ben Doughten, Ronnie Roney, and Donnie Cole.
