KSP Charges School Resource Officer With Harassment

BENTON, Ky. – Following a Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 investigation, Marshall County Deputy James Steven Oakley has been charged with Harassment.

On May 14th, 2025, KSP Post 1 was contacted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) requesting KSP to investigate allegations against Deputy Oakley, possibly involving his position as a School Resource Officer. It was reported that Deputy Oakley was alleged to have sent inappropriate messages to juvenile female students at Marshall County High School.

A thorough investigation into the allegations was conducted and the facts were presented to the Marshall County Grand Jury on Friday, July 11, 2025. The Grand Jury found probable cause to indict Deputy Oakley on the charge of Harassment.

On July 14, 2025, James Steven Oakley, 47 years old of Benton, KY was served with a summons charging him with Harassment. Deputy Oakley has served as a School Resource Officer since being hired back by MCSO in November 2022 after previously retiring in December 2020 after 20 years of service with MCSO.
