Parents of students at Union City Elementary School and UC Middle School need not worry about purchasing school supplies as they prepare their children for the upcoming 2025-26 school year.
Director of Schools Wes Kennedy has announced that the school system will continue its recent trend of providing necessary supplies for every student in Pre-K through 8th grade for the upcoming year.
Students will only need to bring their own backpacks.
Kennedy, who is entering his ninth year as superintendent of UC Schools, said he hopes the gesture will alleviate some of the challenges many families face when preparing for the start of the new school year.
“Beginning a new school year comes with some stress for families – especially those with multiple children,” he said. “There is the financial burden, and sometimes it’s the issue of not being able to find certain supplies. We hope this helps alleviate some anxiety that many parents and families feel at this time of the year.
“For our families who have two or three children or more, things can add up quickly when you consider everything they will need for an entire year. We’re happy to be able to continue to do this for another year and appreciate the help we’ve received from people who’ve made it possible.”
Registration for students in the Union City School System is set for August 7, with the first day of classes for the 2025-26 school year on August 11.
