
James R. “Junior” Staggs, Jr., age 44, of Puryear, TN passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025. His funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, July 10, 2025 at McEvoy Funeral Home conducted by Bro. Larry Simmons. Burial will follow the service in Bethel Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is scheduled on Thursday, after 12:00 P.M. until time of service.
James Richard Staggs, Jr. was born February 22, 1981 in Florence, AL to the late James R. Staggs. Sr. and Kathryn McCurry Staggs, who survives in Iron City, TN. Junior married Katie Staggs on July 22, 2006 and she survives in Puryear.
He is also survived by his daughters, Savannah, Sophie, and Scarlett Staggs, all of Puryear; by his sister, Jessica (Jared) Hasting of Giles County, TN; brothers, Matthew “Matt” (Alex) Staggs of Lake Wales, FL and Christopher “Bubba” (Samantha Simpson) Staggs of Iron City; nieces and nephews, Mason Wilkerson, Gideon Hasting, Braylyn Staggs, Hayden Simpson, and Issac Staggs; grandfather, “Pa” Raymond Holt; and by special friends and mentors, Doug and Beth Taylor.
Besides his father, Junior is also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Nell Staggs and maternal grandparents, Faye McCurry Holt and James Robert McCurry.
Junior was a devout Christian by faith. He was a multi-state champion auctioneer, owned and operated an auctioneer university, ran a boot camp to help young auctioneers, had his own business, and was a very talented salesman, realtor, softball and soccer coach. Junior’s second love was music. He was also a mental health advocate who enjoyed the outdoors, riding the tractor, helping with charities, fishing and just loved people. His family was a top priority to him and most especially spending time with his girls.
