Dover, Tenn.–The Stewart County Chamber of Commerce is welcoming the American Cruise Lines’ ‘The Splendor’, to Dover Friday, July 4. It will dock at the boat ramp around 12:30 p.m. and people on board will tour several places in Dover, including the W.D. Sykes Museum, Fort Donelson National Battlefield, the Surrender House and National Cemetery.
The cannons will be fired as the boat approaches so passengers on the boat can hear what Union Gunboats may have heard coming towards Fort Donelson during the Civil War.
Fred Shaw, Commander of the American Legion Dover Post 72 and the Town of Dover will place around 20 American Flags at the Boat Ramp and Shaw arranged for some vendors from the Hwy 79 Farmer’s Market to be on hand as well as having grilled hot dogs for those in attendance, according to Chamber President Danny Peppers.
