Union City, Tenn.–This year, Union City Parks’ Turf Management Department celebrates its 20th year. The department is recognizing its long-time Director, Robin Francis, who has been there since the beginning. This is his last year, as he retires in February. City officials said, “Thanks, Robin, for all of your hard work and dedication to the city for all these years.”
The following is a history of the department and a list of some of the work that’s been done over the years and some of the crews that worked tirelessly to keep things running smoothly.
20 years ago, the Sports Turf Management Department began with Chris Crockett as the director & Robin Francis as foreman.
The department has set a standard in the area for producing & maintaining some of the best baseball, softball, football, soccer & practice fields in the region.
The department has won several local & state awards as well as the prestigious Sports Turf Managers Association High School Football Field of the Year for 2009.
There have been countless other employees in the 20 years. We thank each of you for helping shape the department into what it is today. We are also thankful for the community and for all of the support throughout the years, and we hope to see everyone continuing to enjoy our complex for 20 more years.
