
Dresden, Tenn.–A lightning strike is believed to have caused a house fire in Weakley County early this morning.
At 12:02 AM today, the Dresden Fire Department, with mutual aid from Palmersville Fire Department, responded to a reported structure fire on Boydsville Road. While en route, dispatch advised that the fire was believed to have been caused by a lightning strike and that the home was filling with smoke.
Upon arrival, command observed heavy smoke coming from the rear of the residence. The structure sustained significant exterior damage due to the lightning strike and resulting fire. Before the blaze could be fully contained, it had extended into the den and a bedroom. The remainder of the home experienced light smoke damage throughout.
Personnel remained on scene until 3 AM. Dresden Fire responded with two engines and a rescue company, while Palmersville provided two tankers. Special thanks to Palmersville Fire Department and Weakley County EMS for their support and assistance on scene.
