Murray, Ky.–A Hermitage man was charged with theft of electronics being purchased from an individual in Murray through Facebook Marketplace.
On June 23, around 7 PM, an officer with the Murray Police Department began an investigation into the theft of some electronic devices. Two individuals were attempting to sell electronics through Facebook Marketplace, and they agreed to meet a person to complete the sale. However, this person grabbed the devices and quickly left without paying for them.
The officer learned that a Marshall County Deputy had conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that matched the suspect’s vehicle. Through a joint investigation, officers charged the operator of that vehicle, Zachary Winecoff, age 29, of Hermitage, with Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $1,000 but Under $10,000.
If you’re looking for a safe location to meet when selling an item through Facebook Marketplace, you are welcome to go inside the Murray Police Department’s lobby.
The Murray Police Department would like to remind everyone that any person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
