Extreme hot temperatures have created a high energy demand across the Tennessee Valley. In order to maintain a continued supply of power to essential services and to avoid possible interruptions of service, TVA is asking that all electric power consumers VOLUNTARILY reduce their use of electricity as much as possible beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24.
TVA and Paris BPU and the Union City Enery Authority are working around the clock to make power available to consumers. Prior to this public request, both entities have turned off all non-essential load within our facilities.
Paris BPU requests that all customers cooperate with this request and to do your part to conserve energy at this critical time. Customers can participate by:
– Postponing the use of electric appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, and cooking equipment
– Reducing the use of air conditioning by raising thermostats above normal levels (at least 2 degrees)
– Turning off non-essential lights, appliances, and other electrical equipment
– Conserving hot water
The request for voluntary reduction is expected to last throughout the day. We will update you as we know more. We appreciate your help!
