Students Leave UCES With Special Keepsakes

Fourth-grade students left Union City Elementary School recently with a special keepsake.

Class members – who’ll transition to Union City Middle School at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year in August – used art to make mementos of their time at UCES in their final days there.

As part of an end-of-the-school-year project, students used painter’s tape to position the number ‘4’ or ‘UC’ on a canvas. They then had the freedom to paint their canvas however they wanted, using purple and gold, the official colors of Union City Schools.

Once the canvases dried, students removed the tape to reveal an area for their classmates to sign the artwork and take home the keepsake of their time at UCES.

The UC Elementary School PTO made the project possible, providing the students with paintbrushes and canvases.

“Several of our students have expressed a love for art, but we haven’t had many opportunities for it in the classroom due to limited time and curriculum requirements,” UCES 4th grade ELA teacher Mallory Powers said.

“We were so excited and appreciative that our PTO was able to help make this art project possible and that it doubled as a UCES keepsake.”
