Getting Ready For Henry Co. Fair At Showman Workshop

fair-showman

Paris, Tenn.–Sixteen first and second year showman participating in the Junior Livestock market lamb and goat project for the 2025 Henry County fair attended a workshop on Saturday June 7. Each child was required to bring their animal, the amount of food they feed in a day, water, hay, halters, and more so they could practice showmanship skills, learn about daily care, nutrition, grooming, clipping and shearing.

This is a combined effort of the University of Tennessee Extension Henry County and the Fair Association. Each group sees this as an important learning tool for these younger or newer participants to gain some first hand experience. It requires them to bring their animals and that helps the animal behave better come show time because they have experience off the farm; It really helps to simmer the nervousness for both of them.

This is not the only requirement to show and sell. All Junior livestock showman regardless of species had to undergo TYQA training in May. TYQA Tennessee Youth Quality Assurance is a statewide educational and certification program to teach individuals humane and quality practices used while raising livestock.
As we move closer to August 8-16, 2025 these kids are hard at work producing a high quality finished food product for a buyer.
