Members of the Union City High School baseball, tennis, and track teams received a hero’s sendoff on Monday in preparation for their participation in Spring Fling 32 over the next few days.

Adoring young fans and supporters lined the halls of UC Elementary and Union City Middle School, giving high-fives and well wishes to the student-athletes who made their way through the buildings before heading to Murfreesboro.

The Tornadoes will be well represented in the state championships with all three aforementioned entries in action today.

Nearly two dozen track and field athletes will compete at Dean Hayes Stadium on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Some field events are slated to begin at 9 a.m., with the threat of inclement weather having already forced a schedule change by TSSAA officials. The possibility of strong storms has moved the afternoon field events and running competition – scheduled to start at 4 p.m. – up two hours to 2 p.m.

The Union City girls’ Final 4 team tennis match against reigning three-time state champion Summertown is still on for 3 p.m. at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro. The winner will advance to the Class A finals on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 against the survivor of the Alcoa-Signal Mountain match.

The Tornado baseball team is still on tap to play University School-Johnson City at 6:30 p.m. in Eagleville in Round 1 of the double-elimination Single-A baseball tourney.

UC will play again on Wednesday, regardless of tonight’s outcome, at either 12:30 p.m. (winner’s bracket) or 10 a.m. (loser’s bracket) in Eagleville.
