The Paris Henry County Chamber Music Society is sponsoring the Community Concert Band Spring concert at 7 p.m. May 27th at the Krider Performing Arts Center at 650 Volunteer Drive.
The Chamber Music Society was started in 2017 by R. Michael Holden with a big assist from Lucy Presson. The nonprofit is a 501 (c)3 organization.
This spring’s concert features Rock and Roll music of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s! The concert is titled “School’s Out—Let’s Rock!”
The band consists of people from many walks of life. The players in the group range from age 13 to age 75. Many of the adults are retired, but most are still working. Holden said, “We have adults drive in from as far away as Jackson, Murray, KY and Martin.”
There are also students from several school systems participating in the PHC Community Band including Henry County Schools , Paris Special School District, Camden Special School District, McKenzie Special School District, Stewart County Schools, Decatur Couty Schools and Henderson County Schools. There are several area high school band directors who also play in the band.
The band is a true mentoring situation . Sometime the young students help the adults who may still be a little “rusty” on their instrument. The band is open to people with band experience of any playing level and of any age.
The PHC Community band performs two concerts a year with eight rehearsals per semester, so, it’s not a huge time commitment.
Tickets are on sale in advance at The Closet Consignment Store at 110 N. Market Street for $5.00. Tickets are available at the door for $8.00. All proceeds benefit the PHCCMS. Additional donations are much appreciated.
Please come support this asset to the community.
