Dr. Leah Watkins Named NW Superintendent Of Year

Paris, Tenn.–At last night’s Henry County Schools board meeting, Director of Schools Dr. Leah Watkins was presented the Northwest Superintendent of the Year Award by Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents Executive Director Dr. Gary Lilly. Lilly said Dr. Watkins is respected throughout our state as an excellent leader with vision and expert in pedagogy who not only stays abreast of current research and best practice, but also applies it. Lilly was honored to present the award, citing the many accomplishments of Watkins, including her TOSS collaboration, one of two AASA Board of Representives for TN, facilitated PD for superintendents, serves as chair for NW Superintendents Study Council and sits on the Executive Council Board.

In other Board meeting items, Student Ambassador, Reagan Bostick was introduced.
A request for students from Henry County middle schools to swim under the Henry County Middle School Swim Team name was approved.
The 2025-26 HCSS Budget was approved for $35,882,301.47. It includes a 4% raise for certified and support staff; raising starting teacher pay to $49,123.73; a $400 Christmas bonus; as well as an estimated increase in insurance costs.

Increase in maintenance budget
Transition costs from Grove to HCHS but conversations with DSCC to generate revenue
Sewer/septic work at Lakewood
Instructional coach for Special Education
