UC City Council OKs Rezoning Request, Hears Audit Report

Union City, Tenn.–At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Union City City Council, Council passed on second and final reading an ordinance to amend the official zoning map of the city to rezone the property located at 1304 S. Miles R1 to B1 (residential to business). Mayor Terry Hailey said, “It’s the lot just south of Car Mart. The CarMart location and the just rezoned lot will be the site of a new Security Bank Building.”
 Council extended the TDOT Grant contract for 5th Street where officials hope to get some paving.
The rest of the meeting dealt with the annual audit report presented by Craig Atwill of ATA. For Fiscal Year 2023/2024, $18,232,448 was used to meet the City’s ongoing obligations to citizens and creditors. At the close of the fiscal year the general fund had a balance of $8,432,247, a decrease of $625,998 for last year. Board of Education revenues were $25,006,220 compared to $21.7 Million the precious year. Capital assets in the Water and Sewer Department increased by $4.4 Million from the prior year primarily due to the Home Street Utility renovation project, which had expenses of $3.4 Million this year, financed by the Federal government’s American Rescue Plan funds. Hailey said, “Property taxes brought in $8.7 Million, Sales Taxes $9.2 Million, Other Taxes $1.8 Million and revenues from other sources $1.9 Million. Revenues total $21.7 Million. Net Expense $17.1. Change in our net position $4.6 Million. Water Revenues were $3.2 Million. Sewer Revenues $1.9 Million. Total revenues including other income $5.4 Million. Expenses for Water and Sewer $5.2 Million.
