Dyersburg State Hosts Annual Honors Convocation

Dyersburg, Tennessee – Dyersburg State Community College honored students on Tuesday, April 22, at the College’s Annual Honors Convocation at the Dyersburg campus. The Honors Program recognized ninety-three students for various academic, leadership, and service awards. Dyersburg State also has a Paris campus.

The awards presented and the recipients are listed as follows:

The Outstanding Academic Achievement award recipient was enrolled in one or more courses in the department during the current academic school year. The student excelled academically and was deeply involved in the course content, engaging with faculty and peers.

The Outstanding Honors award recipients had to complete four honors courses with a grade of B or higher and complete a capstone honors project. Each student has successfully completed the Honors Program and is graduating with Honors.

Middle College graduates are high school juniors who complete 60 hours (four semesters) of college credit through in-person/online courses to graduate with an Associate of Science with a concentration in General Studies. DSCC commends the dedication to excellence that each graduate demonstrated throughout the Middle College program.

The Student Support Services awards include the Student Support Services Outstanding Student Award and the Student Support Services Outstanding Tutor Award. The Outstanding Student award is presented to students in the Student Support Services program who have a 3.75 or higher GPA and are committed to academic excellence. They work diligently to excel in their classes, are committed to studying and using available success supports, maintain attendance and engagement in their classes, and are focused on achieving goals. The Outstanding Tutor award is presented to a Peer Tutor in Student Support Services who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, a strong work ethic, and high academic standards for themselves, and, through their position as Peer Tutor, is an encourager and is committed to helping other DSCC students reach their own academic goals.

To qualify for the Eagle Ambassador award, students must be of good moral character, dependable, friendly, outgoing, and willing to help others. They must also possess strong leadership qualities, good communication skills, and devote the time and effort needed to become successful DSCC student recruiting team members.

The PTK awards include the PTK Chapter Officer and the PTK-All Tennessee Academic Team Service Award. The Chapter Officer award signifies that students have earned membership in the DSCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and have served as chapter officers, directing all activities on campus, at the regional and international levels. The following students met all requirements and achieved the highest chapter level possible, Five-star status. The All-Tennessee Academic Team Service Award signifies that Phi Theta Kappa members at DSCC each year complete the online common application for 90 million in scholarships. These two students received the highest score in the college. They were chosen to represent Dyersburg State Community College as the top academic students at the state level.
