Peggye Taylor Elkins, age 92 of Puryear, passed away Monday, April 28, 2025 at her residence. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 3rd, at McEvoy Funeral Home with Josh Manning of East Wood Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Green Plains Cemetery in Hazel, KY. Visitation will be at McEvoy Funeral Home after 11:00 am Saturday, May 3rd prior to the service at 2:00. Pallbearers for Ms. Elkins will be Evan Smith, Paul Ballegeer, Cory Givens, and Kelly Burke.
Peggye Taylor Elkins was born April 23, 1933, in Pryorsburg, KY, to the late James Porter & Maude McCall Taylor. On June 14, 1958, she married Joe Pat Elkins, who preceded her in death on March 22, 2019.
Peggye graduated from Murray State University and worked as a librarian and a teacher before she and her late husband, Joe, founded Elkins Real Estate Company, where she worked as a broker. Prior to retiring, she was employed at Castleton Realty. After retirement, she spent her time on the farm with her husband, raising horses. Peggye cherished being with her family, particularly her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was also a long-time member of Eastwood Church of Christ.
Peggye is survived by her daughter, Kim Smith of Nashville; grandchildren: Leigh Ann Renfro (Paul) Ballegeer of Paducah, KY, Evan Smith of Charleston, SC, Jonathan Renfro of the Armed Forces, US Army deployed, and Leslie Smith (Cory Givens) of Columbia, TN; great-grandchildren: Luke Taylor Ballegeer and Kate Ann Ballegeer; son-in-law, Brad Renfro of Paducah, KY; nieces: Althea Taylor, Nancy Taylor, and Regina Johnson; nephew, Thane Johnson; and many cousins and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Peggye was also preceded in death by daughters: Leslie Kane Elkins and Zana Elkins Renfro; sisters: Pauline Taylor Ligon, Garnez Taylor McMasters Hopkins, & Rebecca Taylor Johnson; brother, Wayne Taylor; and niece, Paula Ligon Reading.
