Marcos Landeros set a program record for goals in a single game with seven to lead Union City to a 9-1 prep soccer victory over Clarksburg on Wednesday.

The Tornadoes squared their overall record at 4-4 and remained unbeaten in district play with the win.

Silverio Acevedo opened the scoring for UC just a little more than three minutes into Wednesday’s contest. Juan Carlos Barron – with an assist from Gavin Morgan – made it 2-0, and Landeros found the net for the first time to give the Twisters a 3-0 lead at the intermission.

Landeros then tacked on five more goals in the second half, including a hat trick in less than two minutes of play.

KhaZarion Scates finished with four assists for Union City, while Acevedo, Barron, and Carter Wilson were also credited with assists.

Eric Lopez stopped three of four Clarksburg shots in goal for the victors.

UC will host Bruceton on Tuesday then plays a district match at McKenzie on Thursday.

UC 12, Gallatin County 2

Fort Walton Beach 14, UC 2

The Tornadoes split two more games in the Fort Walton Beach Bash on Wednesday and Thursday, completing their stay in the Florida tournament with a 2-2 record.

Logan Dawkins and Troy Joslin propelled UC to a big win over Gallatin County (Ky.) on Wednesday.

Dawkins went 4-for-4, knocked in three runs, and scored two more to pace a 13-hit Twister onslaught. Joslin tripled, doubled, and singled, driving in three runs and crossing the plate twice.

Sam Jones went 2-for-4 with a double and a single and two runs scored, while Copeland Chism and Jack Theobald each scored twice. Tucker Davis helped out with two RBIs.

Ben Kail was in complete command on the hill, striking out 11 while going the distance to pick up his first win of the spring.

The Tornadoes were their own worst enemy in the final game of the tourney on Thursday, guilty of five errors and hitting six batsmen in a mercy-rule loss vs. the host school.

UC actually scored first in the contest, taking a 2-0 lead when Kail and Ben Howell crossed the dish in the top of the first.

FWBHS took a 3-2 lead after two innings, though, then took advantage of multiple miscues by the Twisters to score six times in the third and five more in the fourth.

Jones had two hits and was credited with the Tornadoes’ lone ribbie. Dawkins smacked a double for Union City’s lone extra-base hit.

Chism was charged with the pitching loss, his first in five decisions this spring.

UC, now 13-8 overall and 7-1 in District 14A play, will play a two-game league series vs. Gleason on Monday and Tuesday. Game 1 will be at Elam Stadium on Monday at 5 p.m.
