New Johnsonville, Tenn.–The Johnsonville State Historic Park was awarded a Historic Property/Land Acquisition Fund Grant from the THC focused on the Restoration/ Rehabilitation of contributing sites and structures within the Johnsonville Historic District.
A majority of this grant will be used in preserving and restoring the upper and lower redoubt locations at Johnsonville to protect the Civil War earthworks from natural disaster & destruction or erosion. Over the past several years, Johnsonville State Historic Site has put monumental effort into clearing and rediscovering the Civil War and Reconstruction Era narratives at the site through this process. This grant will support them and their final hurdles in protecting the largest remaining areas of concern from destruction and erosion and preserving one of Tennessee’s most fascinating Civil War site’s and battles.
