Obion County, Tenn.–At the request of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, soldiers from the 230th Engineer Battalion, 194th Engineer Brigade, sent five high-water vehicles to support Obion County EMA with search and rescue operations earlier this evening. According to the National Guard, “We remain ready to assist our partner agencies throughout the ongoing response and recovery effort.”
The Obion County EMA announced earlier, “We are notifying residents on the east side of the railroad tracks in Kenton to voluntarily evacuate this area due to potential levee failures to the south of Kenton. Displaced residents can go to the Kenton gym for further instructions.”
Meanwhile, the Rives Volunteer Fire Department posted the following announcement on its Facebook page: “We gave it our best shot but there was just too much water. If you stayed and you need out you will need to call 911.”
Earlier this week, the Army Corps of Engineers were called in to help repair the levee in Rives which experienced catastrophic conditions during an earlier storm, requiring numerous rescue operations.
